Case study - Avon fire and rescue
AVON FIRE AND RESCUE
Large scale document and content management system, including internet and intranet
BACKGROUND
Avon Fire and Rescue provide emergency and protection services to the communities of Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire. The role of a modern fire and rescue service has expanded to cover the core functions of 'preventing', 'protecting', and 'responding'.
A state-of-the-art document management system
CHALLENGES
We needed to develop a brand-new intranet system for the Fire & Rescue Services. The new system had to include a state-of-the-art document management system that was capable of tracking all documents from creation through to publication.
The system also needed to enforce a standardised, uniform approach for all users, and include an e-mail alert system to alert document owners/trackers about any changes or updates.
The project required close working relationships with a number of key stakeholders throughout the region, and the national Chief Fire Officers' Association (CFOA).
Regional internet and intranet systems, comprising of large-scale, sophisticated document and content management
RESULTS
We managed the full life cycle, from producing initial proposals and obtaining government approval, through to delivering training courses to key members of staff.
Our solution exceeded the expectations of the Fire and Rescue Services, and was completed on time and within budget.
The system currently saves each service area approximately £160,000 per year in staff time, and includes legally-required document audit trails to track how a document changes over its lifecycle. It is a scalable solution that can be replicated elsewhere throughout the country.
